Charity Algarme was born in Los Angeles and lives in San Diego, California. Often using found relics combined with objects made from everyday materials, Algarme creates artworks that explore the intersection of where the known meets the unknown.
My artwork is concerned with the exploration of materiality, within the lens of phenomenology. Consequently, the materials I use can be highly varied and non-traditional, chosen primarily for their ability to strike parallels between the material world and the psychological realm. Because the human body acts as a physical marker of time, my sculptures and installations consistently reference the body itself, or the spaces it occupies.
